In order to minimize the risk of human lives and due to the danger of heavy labor in low-gravity environments, Neo Miami's labor force is a large force of remote-controlled, bipedal, humanoid mechs. In the initial development phase of Neo Miami, skilled mech pilots were both highly uncommon and broadly desired- not to mention needed on a one-to-one basis- and so a large labor force was formed during the initial colonization and expansion days. These mechs are piloted remotely- pilots wear a special suit that captures all their motion, and camera feeds from their external sensors feed back to the pilots' visors. As advancements in AI and cyberwear technology progressed, fewer and fewer pilots became necessary, due to an increase in complexity and intelligence of the AI's automation programs and in the present day mech pilots are responsible for around 10 mechs at once, though the number of people working such a job has been shrunk to reflect that.
